This
painting is significant because it appeared on the premier
issue of Hunterdon County Town & Country magazine.
I chose this scene because it embodies the whole county
of Hunterdon including its agricultural history and colonial
heritage. This particular farm has a typical red New
Jersey barn wih a cupola and horizontal barn siding which
is unique to the barns around Hunterdon County.
I
decided to add the sheep to soften the architectural angles
of the composition as well as to represent farming that
has played a vital role in the county.

and I am usually anxious for the leaves to disappear.
However, this scene at the Thompson-Neely farm, in
Bucks County, PA captured my attention because the
trees were especially brilliant.

Cornstalks are used for animal bedding throughout the
winter and remain in the the fields until they are needed.

is something restful about this scene, The crops have
been harvested and the fields are tucked under a blanket
of snow until spring.
